The Corry Beavers open their season on the road against the Girard Yellowjackets. This home opener will no doubt be emotional for the Yellowjackets after the sudden loss of their coach, Mina George.

Former assistant coach Jim Funk will take over for George.

Funk, much like coach DeLattre, will be dealing with a young team and changes on offense and defense. Senior quaterback Justin Zadorozny and senior wide receiver Joe Sobucki will anchor a team that has lost four of its five top receivers, its two leading running backs, and its two leading scorers.

The Beavers will be led by sophomore quarterback Matt Cragg with seniors Adam Zimmerman (RB), Justin Miller (TE), and Corey Owens (WR). Coach DeLattre has said this is one of the larger offensive and defensive lines the Beavers have had in recent years. Seniors Alec Gluvna (DL) and Dustin Taubert (DL) will anchor the defense.

Girard finished 5-5 last season. Corry finished 7-4 and lost in the first round of the playoffs.

We are just days away from the start of the season. Corry will hit the road to play Girard in what will be an emotional start to the season for the Yellowjackets with the loss of their coach, Mina George. Corry defeated Girard last year, 24-14, while Girard was on top 19-10 in 2008.
